8Layer was one of the sponsors in the First Meet-up of Philippine IT Security Forum held at Microsoft’s head office in Makati last July 20, 2019. Philippine I.T Security Forum is a Community Forum for Pinoy IT Security Enthusiasts who loves to share their knowledge, insights and thoughts on cybersecurity, as well as for those who wants to learn about Cybersecurity.

The group had organized its first meetup and it was successfully attended by close to a hundred attendees, students and professionals alike. The whole day event that started at 8 in the morning was filled with knowledge sharing, discussions, questions and answers, laughter and audience participation. 8Layer’s CTO, Al Victoriano was one of the organizer of the event.

The morning topics included Data Privacy by Mr. Jun Macarambon, who shared about data privacy law and principles and also gave useful reminders about data privacy violation and the actions to take in the event of violation. It was followed by Mr. Milo Pacamara who had an interesting topic -“Cyber Warfare: A fantasy or an imminent threat?”. Next was about “Payment Security: Understanding the Benefits and Process”, which was delivered by Hiral Patel. He talked about online payment, the risks, financial loses, fraud and things we can do to be more vigilant in online transactions and prevent fraud and cybercriminals from stealing money online.

In the afternoon, the topic was about Physical Security which Mr. Jerwin Cuason of LockSport showcased the tools used for lock-picking. Next topic was about Google Hacking presented by Mr. Isaiah James Puzon, where he showed the art of searching on the internet or “The art of Googling” by using operators or keywords. Last topic was by Mr. Jonelle Castaneda with “Wireless Hacking 101 : Introduction To Software Defined Radio” where the audience was amazed at the actual demonstration of bypassing car security.
