A 5-day training on Development using Docker was conducted for the IT team of the Bureau of Fisheries and Aquatic Resources (BFAR) last Sept. 23 to 27 at Hive Hotel in Quezon City.  Participants from the head office and other branch offices of BFAR attended the course eagerly to learn how to use and manage containers, docker architecture, setting the environment, build images.

8Layer’s R&D Head, Mr. Eliezer Rabadon and Mobile Development Head, Mr. Edmar Diaz, facilitated and conducted the 5-day training with lectures and hands-on activities.  The session started with the introduction about docker containers, its usage, and benefits, architecture.  Participants were then taught how to install docker in different operating Systems (OS).  Using Docker Toolbox, each of them started installing docker in their laptops.  Upon successfully installed, they were taught pulling and pushing images to and from Docker Hub. Topics then went deeper into activating and deactivating dockers; creating containers and building images and other settings needed for running docker.

The highlight of the training was a contest challenge for the participants to create a Bulletin Board in MongoDB that is dockerized.  The contest was for groups of 5 with the fastest team to finish and the lightest docker image as the winning criteria.

The winning group members of the contest were Aris Pasco, Raymark Navaro, John Luciano, Ericson Cadag, and Jorald Vailoces.  Each of them was awarded a token prize for winning.  All the participants completed the training with the knowledge of Docker and how to use it.

We commend BFAR for spearheading these kinds of training to their employees for their knowledge and career building.  Congratulations to all those who completed the training!
